For Love of The Movies

Sylvester Stallone. Jason Statham. Jet Li. Mickey Rourke. Dolph Lundgren (Back to a mainstream film). Eric Roberts. Randy Couture (of Ultimate Fighting Champion fame). ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin (of WWE fame). Terry Crews (from The Longest Yard and Street Kings). Brittany Murphy. Bruce Willis. Arnold Schwarzenegger. 12 names. Add a title… THE EXPENDABLES.

Many may find this hard to believe… but in 2010, those 11 actors and 1 actress (and plenty of others) will be part of what must be the greatest action ensemble cast in the history of cinema – THE EXPENDBALES.

Stallone doing what he really does best (Rocky Balboa and John Rambo)…  writes, directs and stars in the upcoming action extravaganza from Millennium Films (who did the above mentioned Rambo 4). 

Without a doubt,  it’s my most anticipated movie of next year.

JCVD (Jean Claude Van Damme) turned down a role in the film because he didn’t believe his character had enough ‘depth’ or something along those lines. It may end up being a silly move. This is a come-back vehicle for Lundgren and his Universal Soldier counter-part should probably have thought about that decision a little more!

If it’s one thing that Stallone knows how to do to perfection - it’s action. The film is about a group of mercenaries (said list of huge action stars minus perhaps Eric Roberts, who will probably play a villain?) who head off to knock the shit out of a South American dictator. Simple. The way we like it.

Schwarzenegger is doing a cameo (hopefully longer than the ‘blink-and-you’ll-miss-me’ cameo in The Rundown) but Willis apparently has a larger role.

Expect loads of testosterone on the set, as with the original Predator film, with all the big stars flexing their muscles and seeing who can carry the largest weapons.

It’s the type of film that is guaranteed to get a lamb-basting from the critics but will make a ton at the box-office, keep all the fans happy and probably get green-lit for a sequel. Rambo V (5) is already in-production with Mickey Rourke rumoured as one of the leads. The story is set along the lines of Rambo finding out he has a daughter, who has been kidnapped by a cult. He has to go in and rescue her. It is apparently going to be taking place in Africa. Where do I sign up as an extra?

Expendables is due for release on 23rd April 2010… for love of the movie!

Looks like Stallone decided to get into shape to take on the younger action stars! Looking good.
